OUR PEOPLE
Ian Mellett
Ian is the principal of Quay Law and the driving force behind the firm’s approachable, client-first way of working. He holds a B Comm, LLB and H Dip Tax, and is admitted to practise both in New Zealand and overseas, bringing genuine commercial and tax insight to every property and conveyancing matter. But what clients tend to remember is how he makes them feel: friendly, courteous, and genuinely interested in getting to know them. Ian built Quay Law to be free of the intimidating, hierarchical feel of a traditional firm, a place where people can relax, ask questions, and have open, in-depth conversations about what matters to them. He focuses on building long-lasting relationships and giving clients direct access to a senior lawyer that sits at the heart of a boutique firm, guiding buyers, sellers and investors through every step in plain English.

“Ian Mellett is able to advise you on all aspects as set out in the Auckland law firm’s practice areas.
There is so much more to the man than being a lawyer.
For his ongoing commitment, past sponsorship and contribution to the local community and cricket club, Ian was appointed as an Honorary Vice President of Parnell Cricket Club in 2015.
He’s played rugby competitively. But is a focused father, a regular Father Christmas at Christmas functions and has laid wreaths at the Cenotaph on behalf of the South African government during Remembrance Day Services.
Ian Mellett is a fair, approachable yet capable New Zealand lawyer who is able to assist his clients, no matter how complex their legal requirements may be.
