The town of Pukekohe is a wonderful and burgeoning place famous for its market gardens, the fresh vegetables that these gardens produce, and its proximity to major North Island markets.

An estimated one third of New Zealand’s yearly vegetable crop is picked from the fertile, free-draining volcanic soil in Pukekohe and to the south from Pukekawa. Pukekohe is especially famous for its potatoes dug from the northern slopes of Pukekohe Hill, but this is not all Pukekohe has to offer…

As Auckland continues to grow, Pukekohe is becoming a place ripe for property development. According to the proposed Auckland Unitary Plan, Pukekohe is going to be an incredibly important satellite town over the next 30 years. It is thought that 50,000 more people and 9,000 new jobs will descend on the town over this period.

This is going to be helped along by the closure of Pukekohe Park to motorsport events, as the owners of the Park want to focus solely on hosting thoroughbred racing from next year onward. The excess land resulting from this closure may well be rezoned for property and housing in the future, providing more potential for development.

Although that it is yet to be confirmed, the Auckland Unitary Plan has already identified 1700 hectares of land for urban development in and around Pukekohe.

Current land use in Pukekohe consists of a lot of mixed housing suburban areas fanning out from the town centre, this means that the land toward the edges of the town provides a great opportunity for future urban development.

There is sometimes uncertainty whether Pukekohe is part of South Auckland or part of Franklin, but the regional councils deem Pukekohe to be a part of Franklin. The surrounding areas of the Awhitu Peninsula, Kawakawa Bay, and Oere Point, make the town a brilliant slice of the country not too far from the bustle of Auckland.

Opportunities like this do not come around often, so do not be slow to enquire with our Pukekohe conveyancers if the allure of the small town is making you consider a move to this picturesque part of the country where life is only set to get better.
